I started as an Area Manager with Cavity in January 2012 after nursing for 25 years in Surgery! I have watched the Company grow tremendously over the last 8 years and feel really proud to have played a part in that.
I grew up in Southampton with my family; I met my now husband who was a part of the air force and so moved away from Southampton and did a lot of travelling with him and his job. I got to see a lot of different places and make a lot of memories in the process, it was an amazing time.
It was when we returned from a post in Cyprus that I actually then got my first job in a Dental Practice! We are now settled in Swindon and have been for many years.
We are keen golfers and so when I am not working you will find me on the golf course especially in the Summer months.
I love watching Friends, I have seen every episode more than once and I am always drawn to it when I turn the TV on!
I am one serious chocoholic! I just can’t resist it with a cup of tea! Easter is definitely my favourite holiday – I have the perfect excuse to indulge. Not that I need an excuse 😊
When I returned from Cyprus, I took a job in a Dental Practice as a Receptionist; 25 years later I am still in the industry! I love it, especially working for Cavity.
I went from a Receptionist to then go on and do my Dental Nursing qualification, I expanded my Dental Nursing qualification and gained some post registration qualifications before becoming a Practice Manager. I am the kind of person that loves to develop my skills and so I reached the point of needing a new challenge to sink my teeth in to.
I met with Sharon and she told me about how she had started the business in her spare room and took on all jobs herself, to then employing two Area Managers and expanding slightly and then looking to expand the company that bit further once again and was I up for the challenge.
I am so glad I took on the challenge. We now cover the whole of the UK and Wales and I have a team of over 50 Dental Nurses myself.
A Day in the Life of an Area Manager
Much like Lizzy, my typical day consists of getting up at 6.30 to take in calls and help my team get to their destinations safely. I then head out on the road, I generally have a meeting or 2 booked in (interviews, staff reviews) and around those, I will visit clients and practices.
I then head home for around 5.30 and continue to confirm that everyone has received any updates for the following day, and generally check and send a few emails and do a bit of paperwork.
I think my colleagues would say I am a bit of a control freak, and perhaps with that I can be a bit bossy on occasion, determined, kind, and I hope a nice person to be around.
