So below is my first of many blog posts for Cavity Dental Staff...
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
Have you ever wondered what it's really like to be a Locum Dental Nurse? Ever thought you'd like to do it but are unsure of whether or not you could?
If you have, then read on!
I'm a Tooth Fairy (it's what we Cavity Nurses are called.....cute huh?!) and have been for nearly 2 years now.
The first thing to mention is that every day is different, not just because you're rarely in the same place twice, but also because all the patients are new to you. This means even more patients that make you roll your eyes than normal.
Secondly, the Dentists you are nursing for are usually always very grateful to you, not least because you're there to rescue them when their nurse has gone sick/walked off in a huff/gone on her jollies etc....but also because we go the extra mile for them.
"I'm not licking their boots" I hear you say.....well, no...I wouldn't advise it, I just mean we smile a lot, don't moan about patients (we don't know them so why would we?!) and get the job done!
I won't lie, there are a few dentists who are, shall we say, not the bouncing smiling happy people we would like them to be, but hey....they may be a pain today, but you'll be gone tomorrow!
Finally (until the next installment anyway).....we smile a lot. Why? Have you ever wished your boss appreciated you more, said thank you once in a while and noticed when you worked that bit harder, stayed late, helped out etc?
I used to think exactly that......until I came to work for Cavity Dental Staff, now I get a thank you every day, I feel appreciated and valued and I am proud of what I do.
It goes without saying that there is more to it, but my mother taught me to always leave them wanting more (whoever 'they'are!!), so pop by soon for the start of the real story behind the scenes of the Life of a Locum Nurse........
