Meet National Workforce Manager, Fiona

20th Aug 2025

I am Fiona, one third of the National Workforce Managers!

I joined Cavity as an Area Manager in 2015, so this year sees me celebrating 10 years with the company

"We were the first agency to set up in the North of England – and as such built a wonderful team of  Locum nurses, many are still with us today, have been and still are absolute stalwarts and fantastic Cavity ambassadors.

We also built wonderful relationships with the practices in the area, and as our popularity grew, so did the Area!

My area became a region – which then covered the whole of the North – right down to Liverpool in the West, Nottinghamshire in the midlands and Lincolnshire in the East.

In 2024 Cavity had a restructure now both myself and my colleagues are homebased. I may not be out and about in the area any longer or doing ‘doughnut runs’ and catch ups face to face with staff, but I am at the other end of the phone if you would like a chat.

I arrived at Cavity in 2015 via a very varied route!

My dental career began as a trainee at Newcastle Dental Hospital, from whence I qualified and worked until 1990 when I married a soldier and moved to Germany. I then spent a very happy 5 years working in a military dental centre – where our patients were soldiers, service families and any foreign soldiers on exercise in the training area.Whilst living in Germany I made sure I got out and explored as much of the country as well as many of the neighbouring countries I could.

We returned to the UK where I took a job working in the HR department of HMRC at their main site in Newcastle, which was interesting before heading down to Winchester on another posting. This posting gave me the chance to work within Community Dental Services both in the Southampton and Winchester trusts.  I enjoyed this immensely as every day was different, from GA sessions, school visits with the mobile unit, working in clinics etc.

From Winchester a 2 year posting to Cyprus was next – again we explored as much of the island and Middle East as we were allowed – some countries were out of bounds, but I was lucky to explore Petra in Jordan at sunset – it isn’t called the Rose City for nothing!

Next stop was Edinburgh, my son was born on Cyprus so that was a whole new adventure to navigate! We bought a cottage which we renovated in the Scottish Borders so moved down there – my daughter was born there. After that it was back to Edinburgh, returned to Germany for a few months before a posting to Brecon in Wales. This turned out to be our last posting and we decided to put down permanent roots as children were now both starting school so moved to our beautiful county of Northumberland in 2004 where we have remained ever since.

Whilst my children were growing up I returned to work full time and found myself working in both NHS and Private practices until 2015 when I began my journey with Cavity. I have travelled extensively done so many things, seen some fantastic sights, explored countries in the Far and Middle East, Europe, North and Central America, took a camper van around from Victoria to Brisbane in Australia,  so that just leaves me with Costa Rica on my bucket list! I love history of all kinds, though the ancients fascinated me, suppose living with the legacy of both the Vikings and the Roman Empire in Northumberland its not surprising!!

From August until May – as a season ticket holder of Newcastle United, you will find me in my seat cheering on the team I have supported for over 50 years.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please remember even though I am not around the area, I am at the end of the phone."
