I started working in Dentistry in 1988 and qualified in 1990 and have been in dentistry ever since. I nursed for 5 years before I had a family and after Maternity Leave came back initially part time before becoming a Practice Manager at a local practice for 20 years. After the principal retired I did a year locumming at RAF Brize Norton which was an amazing experience. I loved locumming so much that I decided to join Cavity.
I very quickly realised that Cavity was a great place to work so when I had an opportunity to become an Area Manager, I jumped at the chance and here I am!
My Story
I grew up in Southport with my parents and my two older brothers and I live in the area now with my family. I’m 51 and have two fabulous children. Ste works with Merseyside Fire and Rescue and Andy after finishing his geology degree is now working with Cavity, building the fit testing side of the business. I am one very proud Mum!
Eddie (my husband) and I have been together for 28 years and married for 24 years. We have an apartment in Spain which we love and try to visit as often as possible. Eddie is now retired and is fully enjoying his retirement.
Professional Career
After leaving school, I started working for a Stock Broker; I worked there for about six months before the crash of 1987 and I was then made redundant. I found my calling when I got a job at a local dental practice and I have now been in Dentistry most of my working life! I had an interest in general nursing initially and after being made redundant was considering going to uni and then a job became available at a local dental practice. I applied and once I started – I was hooked!
A typical day in the life of an Area Manager..
I am usually up at 06.00 to feed our black Lab Poppy and make a brew before heading back up the stairs. If I’m lucky I can manage to get dressed before the 1st call – if not dressing gown and slipper socks it is! Computer on at 06.25 ready for calls 06.30. We answer calls from 06.30 to clients who are looking for any last-minute cover and get the nurses out to any new jobs. I also look after my amazing team of 45 nurses who have got caught up in traffic or can’t find anywhere to park, and so working together I can guide them where they need to be.
After 09:00 anything goes! I could be fit testing, interviewing – either on zoom or face to face, staff reviews, speaking to new candidates, staff compliance – you name it we’re doing it. Pre Covid we would be on the road starting a day of marketing (along with all of the above) but nowadays like everyone else, we’re sending emails and making calls to ensure practices are aware of the services we offer.
