Ever Considered Being a Locum?

14th Feb 2019

HELLO NURSES!

The opportunity has arisen for me to have a little ramble about working for Cavity and why I LOVE being a Locum Dental Nurse so much.

I do love a good ramble, so I was only too pleased to oblige.

YOU CAN DO IT TOO WITH TOOTH FAIRY INCENTIVES...

I first began dental nursing 13 years ago and I can honestly say that I love what I do. It is a skilled profession and a very rewarding and versatile career, after all, that’s why we are doing it. Not for the money, I hear you cry!

However, when I joined Cavity as one of their many happy 'Tooth Fairies', I felt like a little bit of a millionaire - yes, really! The start rate is really quite something, and with the added incentive of feeling independent yet supported is great. With regular one-to-one reviews with my cheery and experienced Area Manager (who also has lots of locum nursing experience), and regular pay increases... well, my friends, that simply laughed in the face of my old jobs and my old wages.

Cavity help with your travel expenses and mileage too.

DON’T YOU WANT A PERMANENT JOB?

What about the actual locumming? Isn’t it a bit scary? you ask.

Comments are often put to me out in practice such as, ‘oh, I couldn’t cope not knowing where I’m going to be every day!’ Or, ‘I like to know who I’m working with,’ and my ultimate favourite, ‘don’t you want a permanent job??’ Let me ask you my fellow nurse:

Are you feeling challenged enough where you work now?

Are you stagnating?

Fulfilled?

Truly appreciated?

Supported by other nurses?

Have an experienced Manager at the end of the phone who is always happy to talk to you?

I can safely say that this is a choice.

We are not just an agency where nurses end up because we can’t find work anywhere else. That's not what this is. It’s a choice. It’s a career. It is because we are the best nurses around. We are here to help practices achieve their goals, keep their clinics open, look after their patients and earn money, and just generally be awesome!

We adapt to any practice, any team, any surgery, any materials and equipment, and that makes us amazing. You can be proud of what you do every day here at Cavity.

DON’T BE SCARED...

It’s really not as scary as you might think. You have to give it a go to know. And it honestly doesn’t take long before you are feeling confident.

You are needed out there. And you are really appreciated when you help out at a practice, the Dentist can't run their clinic that day without you, and that’s where we come in as Cavity nurses.

The result for you as a nurse and as a person includes increased skills, experience, confidence, personal growth.

Trust me, you will feel valued.

If you STILL have any questions after all of this, all you ever have to do is pick up the phone and have a chat with one of the team at head office, they are all lovely.

IT’S THE NEW YEAR NOW - GIVE IT A TRY!

I am a mum to a busy toddler, so working with Cavity offers me the flexibility I need. I always feel really supported and I don’t have to worry about the days I want to work or the days I can’t work. There are no practice politics to be bothered with. No issues with holiday because everybody else in the practice has beaten you to it. I bet this sounds familiar?

Just in case you haven’t guessed, I am having so much fun at Cavity. So, off you pop, click apply now!

Make now the time that you make that positive change. Do something for you. Expand your nursing career with endless possibilities.

I have a question for you - what have you got to lose? And more importantly, what have you got to gain?

Happy nursing!
