Below is a summary of the key GDC CPD changes. We've also updated our CPD folders to reflect these changes to ensure your compliance journey is as smooth as possible.
What’s Changed?
While the core CPD requirements remain the same, most of the updates relate to certificate details and increased awareness of grace period options. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Registration Numbers
-
No longer required on CPD certificates.
-
Dental professionals can still include their registration number on CPD evidence if they wish.
-
The GDC has updated guidance to reflect this clarification.
2. Signatures & CPD Certificate Quality Assurance
-
A signature on the certificate is no longer mandatory.
-
Instead, the following wording is acceptable:
“We confirm that the information provided on this certificate is full and accurate and that this CPD has been subject to quality assurance.”
-
CPD providers may also send an email confirmation—with either a signature or printed name—to validate the CPD.
-
The CPD certificate template has been revised accordingly.
3. Mapping Documents
-
No signature is required on mapping documents.
-
An email confirmation from the CPD provider is an acceptable alternative.
-
The updated mapping document template is now available.
-
If a dental professional cannot complete the mapping document in full, alternative evidence (e.g., provider email confirming CPD content) is acceptable.
4. Increased Awareness of CPD Grace Periods
-
All CPD hours must be completed within the 5-year cycle.
-
If you are at risk of not completing your CPD on time, you may apply for a grace period of up to 56 days.
-
Applications must be submitted via eGDC or email during the final six months of your CPD cycle.
-
CPD hours cannot be completed outside the cycle unless a grace period has been officially granted.
