Dementia and Alzheimer’s

2 min read

Dementia is the name for a group of symptoms caused by changes in the brain, affecting memory, thinking, communication and the ability to carry out everyday tasks. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in the UK, but there are many other types, including vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and frontotemporal dementia.

Nearly a million people in the UK are living with dementia, and many more are affected as partners, family members, friends and carers. The condition usually progresses over time, so the support someone needs can change, and knowing where to turn at each stage can make a real difference to quality of life for everyone involved.

In this support hub, we explain what to expect after a diagnosis and bring together trusted organisations offering information, practical help and emotional support for people living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and the people who care for them.
